Frequency-Specific Microcurrent

Experience a happier, pain-free life with FSM

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a therapy that was introduced to me in 2020 and I have used it with great success in treating nerve and muscle pain, inflammation and scar tissue, disc related pain, muscle and tendon injuries, stress fractures and to speed up the healing of muscles and joints after surgery.

How does frequency-specific microcurrent (FSM) work?

When you’re treated with FSM, your therapist uses a special device to deliver a mild electrical current to certain parts of your body. The electrical current used in this treatment is extremely mild — one millionth of an ampere. Such a small amount of electrical current is safe. Interestingly, the human body actually produces its own current within each of your cells.

Depending on the tissue involved, specific frequencies will be selected to encourage natural healing of the body and to reduce your pain. There are frequencies for nearly every type of tissue in your body.

One of the ways FSM works is by potentially increasing the production of a substance called ATP that’s inside injured tissues. ATP is the major source of energy for all cellular reactions in your body. Because treatment with FSM can increase the amount of ATP that’s created in your damaged cells by as much as 500%, this treatment may help with your recovery. Depending on the condition, treatment with FSM can “loosen” or soften the muscles, which can help relieve pain or stiffness.

What conditions can be treated with frequency-specific microcurrent (FSM)?

FSM is most often used to treat pain, especially nerve and muscle pain, inflammation, and scar tissue, from the following conditions:

Headaches

Headaches are a very common condition that most people will experience many times during their lives. The main symptom of a headache is pain in your head or face. There are several types of headaches, and tension headaches are the most common.

Burns

Burns are tissue damage brought on by heat, chemicals, electricity, radiation or the sun. Nearly half a million Americans seek medical care for accidental burns each year.

Kidney Stones

Pain in your back or side, blood in your urine and nausea/vomiting alongside the pain are symptoms of a kidney stone or stones. Most kidney stones are about the size of a chickpea, but they can also be as small as a grain of sand and as large as a golf ball.

Asthma

Bronchial asthma (or asthma) is a lung disease. Your airways get narrow and swollen and are blocked by excess mucus. Medications can treat these symptoms.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

If you have irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, you might have uncomfortable or painful abdominal symptoms. Constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating are common IBS symptoms. IBS doesn’t damage your digestive tract or raise your risk for colon cancer.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia causes pain in your muscles and joints throughout your body. It can also make you feel fatigued and cause mental symptoms like memory problems. Experts don’t know what causes fibromyalgia — and there’s no cure for it — but a healthcare provider will help you find treatments to manage your symptoms.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a common disorder that affects your joints. It can cause pain and inflammation, making it difficult to move or stay active. There are many types of arthritis. Each form causes different symptoms and may need different treatments. While arthritis usually affects older adults, it can develop in men, women and children of any age.

Shingles

Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. There are treatments for shingles symptoms, but there is no cure. There are vaccines against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia.

Who is the therapist

Brian

Brian is a Certified Neurokinetic Therapist at the highest level and is also a Certified Pain Therapist. He started learning Tui Na in Chinatown, Boston where his father was being treated for cancer with traditional Chinese medicine by famous healer Tom Tam. In that time Brian learned Tong Ren Therapy as well as Tui Na. From there Brian was very fortunate to work for and study with Nepalese healer Santosh Karmacharya in Cambridge, where he was introduced to a whole other view of treating dysfunction in the body from a biomechanics standpoint. This is where he began to learn about muscle testing and gait analysis to find and correct dysfunctional patterns.

Brian has now been traveling all over the country studying and learning from the best Doctors and Practitioners in the world such as Dr Kathy Dooley, Dr Mikel Hoff, David Weinstock, Thomas Wells, and Dr. Carolyn McMakin. Having worked for years in a clinical setting with a sports physician has given him the experience and practice necessary to successfully treat various chronic and acute issues as well as sport related injuries. He continues to search for and study the latest and most cutting edge therapies to maximize his effectiveness.

Ready to live a pain-free life?

What to expect during a typical treatment session?

When you undergo microcurrent therapy, you lie comfortably while electrodes are placed at strategic locations to direct the currents to the targeted tissues. Warm, moist towels are applied to facilitate electrical conduction.

Unlike the more familiar TENS units, which also use electrical currents to relieve pain, microcurrents therapy uses very low level electrical current that is not detectable by the person treated.

A treatment course typically involves several sessions, and benefits accrue over time. Microcurrent therapy is safe and has no significant adverse effects. However, it is not recommended for patients who have pacemakers or are pregnant.

FSM therapy is a safe, painless procedure that can provide you with relief from chronic and acute pain. It reduces pain in muscles and nerves, treat discomfort from chronic conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. It also helps treat pain symptoms from headaches, broken bones and other injuries. Patients who are treated within four hours of new injuries such as auto accidents and surgeries have reduced pain and a greatly accelerated healing process due to the effects of both the current and the frequencies.
Because such small current is used, it is susceptible to the hydration level of the recipient. In order to gain full benefit from this therapy you must be well hydrate. It is recommended that you drink 8-10 glasses of water (not tea, coffee, etc) prior to your session.

The average number of treatments depends on the complexity of the problem. To obtain the maximum results, you should receive treatment twice a week, for a series of 10 – 15 treatments, with regular monthly maintenance sessions to follow. The effects of microcurrent are immediate and cumulative, so each time a treatment is performed the new contour maintains its position better and longer.

They are minimal and can often be eliminated with proper hydration. The side effects are related to a detoxification reaction brought about by increased cellular metabolism and the removal of long-stored waste products.
Possible side effects may include nausea or a temporary, heightened, and painful range of motion in the muscles. Most side-effects are gone within 24 hours following treatment.

FSM therapy is especially effective at treating nerve and muscle pain, inflammation and scar tissue.
At Fairhaven Wellness we have been treating a variety of conditions including but not limited to arthritis, bulging discs,
CRPS, ehlers-danlos syndrome, fractures, inflammation, ligaments/ tendons injuries, myofascial pain and spinal issues. It has also been observed that patients who are treated within four hours of a new injury including auto accidents and surgeries have much reduced pain and a greatly accelerated healing process.

Patients who are dehydrated cannot benefit from FSM. Athletes with large muscle mass and inadequate water intake and patients over 70 who are chronically dehydrated have the most problems. Every patient is advised to drink at least one quart of water in the one hour preceding treatment. Patients who are chronically dehydrated may need more water over several days prior to their treatments.

Because such small current is used, it is susceptible to the hydration level of the recipient. There are no guarantees that every protocol is going to be effective in every patient.
In general, the frequencies either work or don’t work and if they don’t work they simply have no effect. That’s why an assessment from our practitioner it’s very important step to this process. We will find the best combination of treatment available for you.

There are no risks to the patient that we know about as long as the practitioner follows the proper contraindications and precautions associated with both FSM and the use of the machine.
FSM Therapy is not ideal for individuals with certain circumstances, like pregnancy, pacemakers or people who have uncontrolled seizures.
